North-eastern state of Sikkim has received recognition as the “world’s first organic state”  by the “World Book of Records London”.

This award emphasised the fact that Sikkim has become the first state in the world to implement 100% organic policy, thus eliminating the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides – a transformation that has benefited over 66,000 farming households.

Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad was named in the “first Organic State in the World” as well as the “Crime Free State” with the best governance award.

Meanwhile, WBR Chairman Dr. Diwakar Sukul and British Parliament MP Virendra Sharma congratulated the Governor and the state on this prestigious achievement.

It’s worth noting that the World Book of Records, based in London, catalogues and authenticates extraordinary records from around the world. It has a global network that enables it to work from anywhere on the planet.

The state has also won the prestigious Future Policy Gold Award from the UN Food and Agriculture (FAO), after beating 51 nominations from around the world. Former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling has received the coveted award.
