Apple and Samsung fined for not offering chargers in box with phones: Millions of customers to receive upto $1,081
The compensations have been levied in multiple countries.
Apple started the trend of removing charging bricks from the iPhones boxes, starting with iPhone 12 and Samsung too began the deduction. They only shipped their respective charging cables inside the box.
This action has now finally gotten them in trouble with courts and governments around the world
As of right now, Apple is facing additional fines in Brazil for not shipping their new iPhones with a charger. Apple has been ordered to pay a fine of $1,081 per customer after a Brazil court ruled its decision of not shipping a charger in the box as “abusive and illegal,” last week.
Millions of other Apple and Samsung customers are also one step closer to receiving a share of compensation totalling £500million.
Consumer champion 'Which?' has been given permission to launch legal action against a smartphone chip maker. If successful, 'Which?' says around 30 million UK customers who purchased an Apple or Samsung smartphone since October 1, 2015, could be in line for compensation.
The brand has stated that the move to remove the power adapter is basically reducing its yearly carbon emission by 2 million metric tons thanks to smaller packaging, which leaks to more boxes in a single shipping pallet. But, it also benefits the company since it does not have to ship power adapters and EarPods, while it also saves on shipping costs as well.
Furthermore, both companies are also being charged in Sao Paulo as well, by the consumer protection agency called Procon.
