DAY 2 of NAVARATRI 2021 :- Brahmacharini Devi

DAY 2 of NAVARATRI 2021 :-

Brahmacharini Devi is the second aspect of the Hindu goddess Durga and is the second Navadurga. Brahmacharini means a devoted female student who lives in an Ashrama with her Guru along with the other students.

In Vedic scriptures the word "Brahmacharini" means a female who peruses the scared religious knowledge.

According to the different versions of the scriptures Parvati resolves to marry Shiva.  It is said that Parvati did tapasya for about 5000 years in order to be Shiva's consort. During this time the Gods approached God Kamadeva - the Hindu God of desire, erotic love, attraction and affection and ask him to generate desire in Shiva for Parvati. They did this because of an asura named Tarkasur who has gained a boon where only Shiva's son could kill him. Kamadeva reached Shiva and strike an arrow of desire on Shiva. This made Shiva opened his third eye on his forehead and burnt kamadeva into ashes.

Seeing all these Parvati did not loose hope and resolve to win Shiva. She begins to live in the mountain and engage in the same activities like Shiva - asceticism, yoga and tapasya. It is in this aspect of Parvati that is meant to be Goddess.

Her ascetic action draws attention of Shiva and awakens his interest. Shiva meet Parvati in a disguised form and tries to discourage her by telling Shiva's weakness and personality problems refused to listen and insists in her resolve. This made Shiva finally accept Parvati and they got married.

The Goddess wears white clothes, holds a Japa-mala in her right hand and kamandal - a water utensils in her left hand.
