 DAY 6 of NAVARATRI :-


Katyayani Devi is the most sixth aspect of the Hindu goddess Durga and is the sixth Navadurga. One of the most worshipped form of Maa Durga, she is considered the slayer of evil Mahishasura.


The Katyayani form of Maa Durga is considered very special for unmarried girls, married women and students in the field of education. It is believed that the Katyayani form was worshipped by Sita, Radha and Rukmini for a good husband.


It was that time when the demon Mahishasura was creating a lot of havoc for the Devas. The Devas couldn't resist anymore and approach Vishnu to sought an end to Mahishasura.


According to the Vamana Purana Devi was created from the combined energies of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva which crystallize in the form of rays at the hermitage of Katyayana Rishi, who gave it proper form which is known as "Katyayani" or "Daughter of Katyayana". 


Bestowed with the most powerful weapons such as Trident by Shiva, Sudarshan Chakra by Vishnu, Shankha (conch-shell) by Varuna, Dart by Agni, Bow by Vayu, a quiver full of arrows by Surya, a Thunderbolt by Indra, a mace by Kubera, a rosary(water-pot) and kala (a shield and sword) by Brahma and a battle axe by Visvakarma.


Mahishasura mesmerized by her beauty offered her to marry him. She told him she must be won in fight. A vigorous battle took place between them where Maa Katyayani defeats Mahishasura and cut off his head with her sword which is celebrated as Durga Puja in East part of India.


Goddess Katyayani has 4 where her left 2 arms carry lotus and sword whereas her right 2 arms stays in Abhaya Mudras. She rides in a lion and wears a red saree. She isvery also known as Mahishasuramardini - the slayer of demon king Mahishasura.


On this sixth day, honey should be used in Prasad to receive beautiful appearance.
